Cleaning with what you have in the pantry

Ever looked in your pantry and thought what you can use to clean with. That is environmentally friendly and has no nasty smells. I have some tips that might help you lower the cost of all the cleaning products that you might buy to clean from the bathroom to the toilet,from cutlery to jewellery. Interested well read on and hopefully these few tips I have will reduce your cost.

* VINEGAR-

Vinegar is a product that can be used as a fabric softener for your towels. Just add a bit to your washing water when washing you towels like you would fabric softener. If you are thinking they will smell they won't, they just smell like your washing detergent but they dry soft like any other time when washed with fabric softener.

I also use vinegar to clean my kettle. You know how your kettle gets that build up in it , just add a cup of vinegar into you empty kettle fill the kettle with water. Leave overnight and empty kettle next morning . Fill with fresh water and boil .Repeat this process three times then your kettle is ready to use. It is also a good thing to clean your toilet with to get rid of the build up of calcium. Just pour a little around the bowl and leave for 30 minutes then clean as usual.

*Methylated Spirits-

Methylated Spirits is another good product to use for your jewellery to clean it. Place a bit in a bowl with a drop of detergent and warm water. leave for a couple of minutes , then using a soft toothbrush gently rub, rinse and in now time they will be sparkling like they have been to the jewelers.

Also a bit of methylated spirits in a spray bottle with water is good for cleaning windows or any sort of glass with paper towel.

*Bi-carb soda-

Bi-cab soda is more than a baking product . Have you ever had a pot like this "picture right "and thought that will never get clean. Don't stress just put some bi-carb in the pot covering the whole bottom with a little water.

Leave for 30 minutes then using a wooden spoon scrap the bicarb around in the pot then wash , you will find the pot Will come clean with hardly any scrubbing.Like bottom picture on right.

I also use bi-carb for cleaning my spoons when tarnished, I sprinkle in the bath or shower. Clean my stove, walls and as toilet cleaner if I run out of vinegar . It is the same process as the vinegar sprinkle in the bowl and leave for 30 minutes and the clean like normal. I don't think there is any thing I don't use bi-carb for.

These are just some of the things you have in your house to use that are chemical free. I hope that my few tips that I have given you will help you not only cut the cost of your cleaning products, but help those that have reactions or can't handle the strong smells that some of the product have . I suffer with hay fever so there are a few things that I can't use so these product help me a lot.

If you have any question please don't hesitate to ask I will help you out if I can. Thank you for reading I hope you find it helpful

Great tips, Shorty. Would have never thought of using vinegar as a fabric softener. I assume that you use white vinegar and not brown, right?

Thank you for your comments I'm glad you found them helpful. Hawkesdream yes it is white vinegar. It also helps when the towels are new and you wash them, it helps them to absorb water better.

Many great tips! I like the idea of using environmental friendly products and try to do it as much as I can. I have used vinegar and heard about using bi-carb soda for cleaning before but for some reason have I never tried it. It sounds like a good idea though and I will try it!

Thanks!

Tina
